Massachusetts State Police and more than 40 local police departments met at a Homeland Security Operations Center briefing to address illegal street takeovers. The meeting included district attorneys and focused on intelligence sharing and strategies to combat these events. As reported by Mass.gov, Governor Maura Healey said, “Our administration will continue to do everything we can to support local officials in the challenges they face.”
The program reflects Governor Healey’s commitment to public safety and a zero-tolerance approach to acts that endanger lives. An October crackdown resulted in multiple citations and arrests, preventing street takeovers that weekend. Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll emphasized the importance of statewide resources to support local law enforcement.
Law enforcement agencies from cities including Boston, Lynn, and Chicopee participated, highlighting the widespread concern over street takeovers. According to Mass.gov, Governor Healey praised their efforts, saying, “I'm grateful for the leadership of Colonel Noble and the brave men and women in law enforcement for everything they are doing to keep our communities safe.”
Public Safety and Security Secretary Gina Kwon highlighted the importance of partnerships in deterring reckless driving and promoting public safety. Colonel Geoffrey Noble of the Massachusetts State Police emphasized the department’s commitment to proactive measures and readiness to respond to illegal activities, especially as warmer months approach.
