A cabana at the Silver Gull Beach Club in Breezy Point, Queens was destroyed by a fire before dawn today, authorities reported. According to ABC7NY, fire officials arrived shortly after the blaze began around 4:30 a.m. No injuries have been reported so far, despite the fire fully engulfing the beachside structure.
Video shared on the Citizen app showed large flames and significant damage to the Silver Gull Beach Club’s cabana. The New York Post reported, citing the FDNY, that the three-alarm fire prompted a large response. The report stated that 63 units and 193 firefighters and EMS personnel were deployed to the scene.
FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief David Sims told the New York Post that at the height of the fire, five hand lines were in operation due to concerns about potential collapse. He added that units were pulled from the building and an exterior attack was established to protect the crews when the structure’s stability was compromised by the flames.
