Maui residents can recycle their Christmas trees at two free temporary sites in Kīhei and Makawao from December 27 through January 11, 2026, operating daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management encourages residents to remove all decorations before dropping off their trees.
For those unable to visit the temporary sites, year-round green waste drop-off locations will also accept Christmas trees during this period. This initiative provides a convenient and environmentally friendly way for locals to dispose of their trees responsibly, according to the County of Maui.
The Environmental Protection and Sustainability Recycling Section of the DEM announced that residents can drop off Christmas trees for free at designated green waste sites, while commercial drop-offs have a fee. Sites include Central Maui Landfill, Hāna Landfill, Olowalu Recycling and Refuse Convenience Center, Lānaʻi Landfill, and Molokaʻi Landfill. Hours vary by location.
