Bostonians, mark your calendars! Mayor Michelle Wu has unveiled a week-long slate of events to commemorate the City of Boston Inauguration 2026. It's a hearty mix of civic, cultural, and community-focused activities aimed to foster a sense of belonging and showcase the vibrancy of different Boston neighborhoods. The inauguration week is walled with opportunities for engaging with residents, elevating community voices, and experiencing interactive interaction with city services and leadership.
In a statement unveiled by the Boston government, Mayor Wu expressed her anticipation for the events, saying, "This series of events to ring in the new year and new term will bring together residents and families across our neighborhoods.” The Mayor adds, “These events and activations will create space for joy, belonging and celebration while elevating the community voices and partners who are shaping Boston's present and future." The lineup kicks off with Boston Family Days on January 4 and 11, offering free access to cultural institutions and setting a warm-up tone for the inauguration of Mayor Wu and the Boston City Council on January 5 at the Boston Symphony Hall.
Moving through the week, Boston Reads: Make Way for Storytime! will sprinkle the love for literature among young Bostonians, highlighting the iconic "Make Way for the Ducklings" at Boston Public Library branches. Meanwhile, the Morning of Hope on January 6 gathers faith leaders and community safety partners for reflection in Roxbury. The upcoming Rooted in Boston event on January 7 gives a spotlight to small business heroes in East Boston, celebrating their economic and cultural contributions to the city's tapestry.
Older adults aren't left out, as the Bloom Boston event on January 8 invites them to South End for a serene floral design session. For the youth, Teen Takeover: The Future of Boston gears up on January 9 to echo teen voices and gather their inputs for the city's directional compass—proving that in Boston, every generation has a stake and a say. All of these events blur the lines between governance and communal life, aspiring to reflect a home for all.
