The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a forecast that's shaping the week ahead with a mix of showers, sunshine, and cloud cover. As the city wakes up to overcast skies and a chilling 31°F, Memphis residents are bracing for an expected turn in the weather. According to the latest update on NWS, there's a 60% chance of showers later in the day, likely after 5pm, with new precipitation amounts ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch.
For those looking to stay dry, umbrellas will be a necessity through tonight. The Weather Service predicts showers mainly before 1 am, with low temperatures dropping to around 28. Despite the damp conditions, the wind remains modest, flowing from the north northwest at around 5 mph—a small mercy for those on foot. The chance of precipitation hangs high at 80%, and brings along additional precipitation between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
Hope for a respite from the wet weather comes in the form of tomorrow's forecast. The NWS informs us of mostly sunny skies with the mercury climbing back near 38°F. A steady north northwest breeze at 5 to 10 mph will accompany the clearer conditions as winter inches closer. The clearer weather should hold through tomorrow night, maintaining mostly clear skies and a low near 26°F.
Chillier mornings will transition into fair skies midway through the week, with Wednesday expecting a sunny high near 46°F. The calm before the next round of showers will resume with mostly cloudy nights on Wednesday and Thursday. The NWS cautions that by Thursday night, showers are, again, likely—mainly after midnight—with the cloud-covered low hovering around 33°F. This precedes another potentially showery Friday with chance peaking at 50 percent.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast suggests a reprieve with partly sunny conditions and highs nearing a more comfortable 49°F for both Saturday and Sunday. Evening lows will maintain consistency, staying in the mid-30s range.
