Two Memphis River Parks employees faced a harrowing experience when they were robbed at gunpoint yesterday. According to Local Memphis, the incident took place around 3:30 a.m. near a Shell gas station located at 837 Florida St., where a black Nissan obstructed their work truck, causing an immediate and alarming situation for the two victims.
In a detailed account of events obtained by WREG, the victims reported that the assailants, three in number, emerged from the Nissan with black handguns and demanded the park rangers to surrender their possessions and exit their vehicle. The confrontation led to the thieves making away with the employees' cell phones, after which one of the victims found refuge and assistance at the nearby gas station.
Memphis Police Department responded to what was initially believed to be a carjacking, only to later clarify that a robbery took place. As stated in a Citizen Tribune report, the officers were called to the scene following a distress call about an aggravated assault.
Following the robbery, the police successfully recovered both of the victim's cell phones outside an abandoned home at 123 W. Frank Street, as Local Memphis notes. Sadly, no arrests have been made and the investigation by the police department remains ongoing, leaving the Memphis community on alert.
The incident has garnered reactions from Memphis residents, with Tomadreus Trezevant expressing his dismay to WREG, "It's sad, man, it just shows how desperate people is out here. You know, someone is going to work trying to make some money, and someone is desperate out here trying to make some money. It's a sad situation all the way around."
