
The Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that took place last Friday in the Northeast quarter of the city, as officers were called to an apartment on Morse Street following reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a young man in a critical state, who was ultimately pronounced deceased despite attempts to save his life.
According to a press release from the MPD, the incident occurred around 8:08 p.m. on Friday, in the 300 block of Morse Street, NE the officers found the victim, identified as Roy Lee Bennett Jr., aged 20, unconscious and with multiple gunshot wounds, emergency medical personnel declared his efforts at resuscitation unsuccessful.
The police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, reminding the public not to take matters into their own hands. The MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and conviction in the homicide.
