Miami Beach is putting its storied architecture center stage in a fresh marketing initiative. The campaign, "Designed to Move You," celebrates the city's wealth of historic art deco buildings and has debuted a 90-second video feature dancers across various art deco locations, as reported by the City of Miami website. Timed with the architectural style's 100th anniversary, the campaign aims to bolster tourism and appreciation for the city's design heritage.
Miami Beach's Art Deco District, renowned for its unique blend of architecture, is getting a new look — in its promotional materials, anyway. The city released the campaign in cooperation with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Art deco continues to be one of the most cited reasons why tourists choose to visit our beautiful city," Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner told the City of Miami Beach communications department. The campaign showcases over 800 historic buildings, the largest collection of its kind in the U.S.
Alongside the dance-filled showcase, Miami Beach authorities are rolling out a redesigned art deco walking tour map and a fresh suite of digital banners. A new logo represents the district, aiming to encapsulate the spirit of the renowned neighborhood. The compact walking tour map, peppered with important landmarks, is being distributed across the Miami area in various city facilities and hotels to encourage exploration and engagement.
"This campaign highlights the Art Deco District as a living destination where history, architecture and contemporary culture converge," Miami Beach Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez said in a statement shared with the City of Miami Beach communications department. The initiative is not just about the pastel hues and neon lights; it's also a nod to the district's enduring influence on Miami's cultural landscape, Fernandez suggests.
To extend its reach, Miami Beach is supplementing the campaign with an outdoor exhibition named Galería Ocean Drive. Situated in Lummus Park, it features over 100 art deco images from around the world. These photographs are displayed beside Miami Beach's tropical deco landmarks, offering residents and visitors alike a visual feast representing the global reach of the architectural style.
