A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested and is facing domestic violence charges after an incident in North Miami, officials confirmed. The deputy identified as Vikardy Theodore, 25, allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with his girlfriend during an argument, according to arrest documents, as detailed by WSVN.
A report by Local 10 News indicates that the alleged domestic battery incident occurred on a Sunday morning, at the residence Theodore shares with the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed. The victim, who has reportedly been in a relationship with Theodore for six years, claimed that during the dispute, Theodore "intentionally and against the victim's will applied pressure to the victim’s throat and impeded the victim’s breathing for 30 to 45 seconds."
Following the incident, Theodore was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without incident and charged with a felony count of domestic battery by strangulation. A subsequent court appearance led to a Miami-Dade judge setting his bond at $2,500 and issuing an order for Theodore to maintain a distance from the victim's home.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz responded to the arrest, expressing her stance on the matter, “I am disappointed by the arrest of a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy on domestic battery-related charges. Domestic battery is a serious offense, this behavior is unacceptable, and the deputies who serve under my leadership are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times," she told Local 10 News.
The incident remains under investigation as the Sheriff's Office continues to review the actions of Deputy Theodore and the circumstances surrounding the alleged domestic violence occurrence.
