Miami Fire Rescue Battles Blaze in Overtown Apartment, 12 Displaced Including Infant and Cat

A fire that erupted in Miami's Overtown neighborhood has left several residents without a home, according to city officials. The blaze, which began in an apartment building at 48 Northwest 8th Avenue, was reported around 3:52 p.m. yesterday, as described by NBC Miami. The City of Miami Fire Rescue team arrived to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the building's second floor.

The urgency to quickly bring the situation under control led the firefighters to rapidly search all residential units, liberating them of occupants. The fire was reportedly swiftly extinguished within approximately 10 minutes. While the official statement disclosed that no injuries were reported, it was noted that residents from four apartments, comprising 9 adults, one infant, and a cat, were all displaced by the incident and now are to be assisted by the American Red Cross, which stated that a total of 12 people were impacted, as NBC Miami reported.

Additionally, the fire caused some collateral damage with a motorcycle shop situated on the first floor suffering smoke damage. The apartments and the common hallway above also sustained significant smoke damage, which renders them temporarily uninhabitable.
