A tragic confrontation at a Miami Gardens home has left one man dead and another charged with second-degree murder. 32-year-old Sylvester Grice Jordan is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend's stepfather, Yasmany Rodriguez Fernandez, after an argument over a dog escalated into violence.
The dispute, which began when Rodriguez Fernandez requested Jordan to permanently remove his dog from the property after Jordan had moved out a week earlier, took a deadly turn last Thursday. According to Local 10, the confrontation that was caught on surveillance footage, shows Jordan firing at Rodriguez Fernandez, who then fell to the ground. In a harrowing act, Jordan can be seen pointing his firearm at the wounded man's head and counted to roughly five before pulling the trigger once more.
Miami Gardens police officers found Rodriguez Fernandez near his front door with multiple gunshot wounds. He was swiftly airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel to Aventura Hospital, but this effort to save his life was to no avail; Rodriguez Fernandez was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Jordan was arrested and is currently being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond for the murder charge, and $2,500 bond for the charge of displaying a weapon while committing a felony.
In the courtroom, Jordan faced the judge to hear the charges levally laid against him. "You're being charged with second-degree murder, also display of a weapon while committing a crime," the judge stated, as reported by WSVN. In a tragic twist, Jordan also faces an out-of-county arrest warrant from Broward County and is expected to reappear in court today.
The events that led to this violent episode hint at underlying tensions within the household, said Hellen Perez, Rodriguez Fernandez's step-daughter, to police. Perez had known Grice Jordan since 2006, and after having a child with him, he had moved into her mother and stepfather's home. However, his stay was cut short due to troubles he was causing in the home, leading to his move out last Monday, as detailed to officers and according to Local 10.
