Cortney Bartholomew, 40, and Bradly Bartholomew, 47, have been arrested for the murder and torture of Cortney’s daughter, 22-year-old Rebecca Park, who was pregnant at the time of her death. Park’s body was found in the Manistee National Forest last Tuesday, three weeks after she was reported missing. Authorities say the couple lured Park to their home on November 3, where the deaths of Park and her unborn child occurred. They face charges including first-degree murder, felony murder, and torture, according to ClickOnDetroit.
Prosecutor Johanna Carey described the incident as "This is, frankly, evil personified," explaining how the Bartholomews allegedly forced Park into a vehicle, drove her into the woods, and committed the acts that led to her death, as per CBS News. The couple remains in custody without bond, and the case has not yet reached a probable cause conference, with authorities asking anyone with information to contact the Wexford County Sheriff’s Department.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said, "Rebecca had everything to live for, and our hearts are with her loved ones as they endure this unthinkable loss," as the community mourned Park’s passing, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. Her adoptive mother added, "She deserves to be remembered as the sweet girl that she was when she was younger," reflecting the lasting impact of her loss, as mentioned by CBS News.
