Milton City Bids Farewell to Councilmember, Celebrates Football Champs, and Adopts Local Oversight on Development Deals

Milton City Council's recent session was a blend of poignant goodbyes, communal celebration, and procedural advancements. On Monday's assembly honored departing Councilmember Andrea Verhoff and the Milton Eagles 8th grade football team, alongside tackling civic matters like development oversight and approving eligible service providers for the coming year.

Verhoff, stepping down after a four-year tenure, did not seek re-election, choosing instead to dedicate more time to her family. "Serving the community I love truly ... one of the greatest honors of my life," she said, expressing gratitude to her family, fellow Councilmembers, and the city staff. Mayor Peyton Jamison praised Verhoff's commitment to the citizens of Milton, and he's excited to see her continue contributing locally, according to a report by the City of Milton's official website.

The meeting's atmosphere remained elated as the Council celebrated the Milton Eagles for clinching the Athletic Association (GMSAA) middle school Division A championship. Propelled by the memory of former teammate James Ryan Van Epps, who tragically passed away in an 2024 plane crash, the Eagles achieved an 11-0 streak and claimed victory with a decisive 40-21 score against Carrollton. "He and his entire family will be with you through your entire lives. You all played for him," Mayor Jamison told the team, as noted by the city's website.

In legislative matters, the Council unanimously passed the Consent Agenda, which included agreements with various service providers such as Commercial Glass and Mirror, HealthEz, and others for city maintenance and healthcare programs. The updated list of eligible residential and commercial waste haulers for 2026 was also approved. Yet, perhaps the most significant development was the adoption of a resolution mandating that the Mayor must consent to deals proposed by the Fulton County Development Authority affecting the city. "We’re keeping the decisions here local," Mayor Jamison affirmed, underlining the importance of municipal involvement in such matters, as stated in the city's official announcement.

The next gathering of the Milton City Council will mark the commencement of its 2026 agenda, scheduled for January 5, where the trajectory of Milton's community engagement and management will continue to unfold.
