Students from Golda Meir school are stepping into the shoes of city leaders, as they prepare to attend the upcoming Common Council meeting on Tuesday. Selected as winners of the Alderperson for a Day essay contest, these 3rd graders will bring youthful insights into the governance of their community, an initiative Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs spearheaded to bridge the gap between elected officials and the younger constituents. As reported by the City of Milwaukee's official press release, Alderwoman Coggs emphasized the significance of involving kids in local politics, stating that it is "important" to engage youth and consider their perspectives.
Not just making a guest appearance, the spirited 3rd graders, by winning the essay contest, have earned their spot at the meeting taking place at 9 a.m. Through the essays, they shared visions of improvements they'd bring to their community if given the mantle of leadership for a day. Running with the chance to impact change, it's reported by the City of Milwaukee that after the Council meeting, these young minds will partake in a talkback session with the Council members to further discuss community betterment ideas.
