Two Mint Hill police officers who were wounded in a shooting have been released from the hospital. One officer, a lieutenant with 13 years of service, and another with six months on the force, sustained injuries above the neck, the Mint Hill Police Department reported on Facebook. The department requested privacy for the officers and their families.
Authorities identified the deceased individual involved as Tjamel Ali Hamlin II, born May 23, 1989. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) assisted with the investigation. The SBI is conducting an independent officer-involved shooting investigation.
The Internal Affairs Division will conduct a separate administrative review of the incident. The department advised that all inquiries regarding the investigation be directed to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
