Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has launched YouCanQuit.org, a state-specific website offering resources to help residents quit tobacco. The site provides guidance for different stages of quitting, with dedicated information on teen vaping, quitting during pregnancy, and the environmental effects of vaping. According to DHSS, tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in Missouri, with many residents attempting to quit each year.
The platform allows Missourians aged 13 and older to enroll in Missouri Tobacco Quit Services (MTQS), providing access to free, confidential support. Participants can receive coaching from a tobacco treatment specialist and, if eligible, free nicotine replacement therapy. According to the DHSS bulletin, the program has helped over 1.5 million people quit tobacco and recently expanded to offer additional support for pregnant and postpartum women, individuals with behavioral health conditions, American Indians, and youth aged 13 to 17.
YouCanQuit.org offers a range of features, including provider resources, a “Share Your Story” section, FAQs about the Quitline, and information for youth and young adults. The site also supports individuals after quitting, providing free materials and information on Missouri’s tobacco prevention efforts. Enrollment in MTQS is available through the website, by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW, or by chatting directly with a coach online.
The DHSS website also addresses less commonly discussed aspects of tobacco use, including the environmental impact of vaping. By providing these resources, the site supports Missouri’s health initiatives and helps residents make informed decisions about quitting tobacco.
