Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service units responded efficiently to a reported deck fire at a residence on Gallop Terrace, swiftly dealing with the potential hazard. Firefighters arrived to find the blaze consuming the exterior deck area, but were able to quickly extinguish it before it could inflict significant damage to the adjoining structure.
In a social media post, MCFRS detailed their actions, indicating that the initial and Rapid Intervention Dispatch units managed to promptly arrive at the scene and combat the flames effectively. The department confirmed the fire was thoroughly extinguished, with crews then making sure to perform an overhaul and to directly verify the safety of the residence. No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
As a preventive measure in the wake of the fire, MCFRS issued a safety reminder through the same social media post, urging homeowners to exercise caution with potential ignition sources on outdoor decks and porches. The department stressed the importance of ensuring that grills, fire pits, and smokers, along with smoking materials, are completely extinguished and kept at a safe distance from any flammable structures.
The MCFRS post further recommended that residents keep their outdoor areas free of debris and leaves that could catch fire and to never to leave open flames unattended. Maintaining such vigilance is key to preventing future incidents that can escalate quickly and potentially threaten homes and lives. As households continue to enjoy outdoor spaces, particularly during cooler weather when heating elements are in use, adhering to fire safety guidelines remains paramount.
