Montgomery County is set to open the gates for financial aid applications for its recreation programs. Starting December 8, Rec Assist will be available to support residents in need, offering scholarships for classes, activities, and memberships that carry a cost. This initiative aligns with the county's commitment to making recreational activities accessible to all, as noted by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.

"Every resident deserves access to the many great recreational activities and programs offered by our Recreation Department," said Elrich, acknowledging the importance of such services. In the past year, residents tapped into nearly $900,000 to engage in varied programs, from swimming to the fine arts, setting the stage, for continued community engagement in the coming year, as per the Montgomery County Government.

Eligibility for Rec Assist extends to recipients of various public assistance programs, including Care for Kids, FARMS, and SNAP, among others. Even students in Montgomery County Public Schools that participate in the Community Eligibility Provision qualify. Eligible individuals can look forward to $400 in financial assistance placed in their ActiveMONTGOMERY account for expenses tied to recreation.

Available funds for 2026 will be up for grabs starting in January and can be utilized throughout the year or until they run out. The first-come, first-served nature of the program encourages early applications. Residents can submit their applications online, via mail, or by personally dropping them off at the official address, ensuring ease of access for all interested parties.

Approval of an application will see eligible funds being credited to the applicant's account within ten working days. For detailed instructions on the application process, visit the official Rec Assist page.
