Another burglary case in Morgan Hill has been closed, thanks to the attentive eyes of local business owners and swift action by the police department. On October 6, Pho Saigon Restaurant was the target of a break-in, during which a suspect forced open the cash register and fled with approximately $326, as confirmed in a report obtained by Morgan Hill Police. It was in the early hours of the morning, around 1:01 a.m., when the front door was shattered, and later the suspect returned to commit the theft.
The investigation took a turn on December 1, when a local business owner reported suspicious activity captured on their surveillance system. Although the suspect had vanished before officers could arrive, the Morgan Hill Police quickly canvassed the area. Their efforts paid off when they detained Antonio Maciel, a 51-year-old Morgan Hill resident, who was recognized from the surveillance footage of the original burglary at the eatery. During questioning, Maciel implicated himself in these crimes, leading to his arrest and booking into Santa Clara County Jail, as reported by Morgan Hill Police, California.
Morgan Hill's Police Chief, Shane Palsgrove, emphasized the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the community. He stated, "This case highlights the value of strong partnerships with our local business community." Indeed, Chief Palsgrove attributes this quick resolution to the local business owners' vigilance and his officers' proactive approach, further commenting, "Because business owners acted quickly and officers responded proactively, we were able to identify and arrest a suspect responsible for multiple crimes in our city. We remain committed to protecting our businesses and maintaining Morgan Hill’s sense of safety."
Residents and business owners are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. In fact, anyone with additional information related to the case is urged to contact Detective Charlotte Siboldi at (669) 377-9953 or via email at [email protected].
