A man labeled an illegal alien by authorities has been charged with assaulting and impeding federal ICE agents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. During an operation to enforce immigration laws, 23-year-old Milton Ermilo Arreaga Roblero is alleged to have driven his vehicle into those of ICE agents, nearly striking one agent who had to take evasive action to avoid being hit.
In a statement reported by the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle underscored the gravity of the situation, declaring, "Assaulting a federal officer is an attack on the rule of law itself." His sentiment was amplified by convictions about the incident’s perilousness, adding that such conduct endangers both officers and the public, pressing the office’s commitment to "take every lawful step to protect our families, officers, and communities." Apparently trying to arrest an illegal alien, an attempt ended in a roadside melee when Roblero crashed into a civilian's vehicle after severely damaging multiple other vehicles, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of North Carolina.
The incident unfolded in Morrisville, where, according to the official complaint, agents had initially stopped Roblero's vehicle without incident. However, the altercation escalated when Roblero purportedly backed into an agent’s vehicle and proceeded to ram into four ICE vehicles in succession. The sequence of events led to Roblero's subsequent collision with a non-involved civilian's vehicle after he drove over a curb and through a garden bed.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s involvement was confirmed by Special Agent in Charge James C. Barnacle Jr., who reaffirmed the agency's dedication, stating, "The FBI will continue to work alongside our law enforcement partners to support illegal immigrant enforcement operations." Roblero now faces charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, with a maximum penalty of twenty years in prison pending conviction. In an effort to underscore the procedural distribution of justice, Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Foxx is currently leading the prosecution, while the FBI is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
