In an effort to uphold transparency and adhere to the mandates of Session Law 2019-251, the N.C. Department of Transportation has furthered its commitment to public accountability by publishing the weekly "NCDOT Cash Watch Numbers" report. This bulletin provides a view into the financial standings of the department, charting the ebb and flow of its monetary resources. According to the latest release of NCDOT, the report is issued each Friday and offers a precise picture of the week's financial movements.
The NCDOT Cash Watch report outlines starting balances, itemizes receipts, tallies broad categories of disbursements, and concludes with the ending cash balance. Notably, it also provides a glance at "reserved cash" balances that are allocated for specific projects and safeguarded in a "Trustee Account". These funds stand to eventually pay for the projects associated with Build NC bonds, GARVEE bonds, and Energy Savings-Roadway lighting funds. It's important to remember, however, that these weekly snapshots can quickly change as revenue continues to flow in and payments routinely go out, as mentioned on the NCDOT official website.
The NCDOT said when state holidays close offices, the release of financial reports is moved to the next business day. Officials said the reports remain available on the NCDOT website, where the public can access current and past financial information.
