Drivers in Davidson County brace for delays as the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announces lane closures on I-40 and Terminal Drive for bridge inspection activities near Nashville International Airport. Starting December 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., motorists should expect alternating lane closures on eastbound and westbound directions of I-40 near Donelson Pike and the airport at Exit 216. Additionally, there will be a full closure of the Terminal Drive ramp leading to I-40 westbound over I-40, kicking off at 10 a.m., as per TDOT's recent release.
The agency confirmed two lanes on the I-40 would remain accessible in both directions during the inspections. Signage will be installed to guide drivers through the closure areas, and TDOT is also coordinating with BNA to disseminate information to airport passengers regarding the ramp and lane closures. In a bid to manage traffic flow and mitigate interruptions, BNA is offering text alerts, which travelers can enroll in for the latest updates.
It's important to note that all bridge inspection operations are subject to weather conditions. TDOT stresses the importance of heeding work zone protocols by reminding drivers to slow down and adhere to the "Move Over Law," which requires motorists to shift lanes away from roadside crews where possible. Those who fail to comply may face penalties, including jail time up to 30 days and fines reaching $500.
For reporting road issues such as potholes, TDOT has provided the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX, as well as an online form for maintenance requests. To stay ahead of the traffic during these inspections, travelers can use the TDOT SmartWay Map or call 511 for travel information.
