Early Friday morning, an unsettling incident involving a tow truck driver who reportedly shot at a woman's car on the Near North Side, prompted a police search. WGN-TV reports that a 34-year-old woman was driving her grey Chevy SUV on the 800 block of North Chicago around 3:50 a.m., traveling alongside a tow truck. After the truck allegedly collided with the SUV's rear, the situation rapidly escalated.
According to the same report, the confrontation turned violent when the tow truck driver opened fire, striking the front windshield of the SUV. Afterwards, the tow truck driver fled the area, leaving behind more questions than answers. No injuries have been reported, but this brazen act prompted a citywide concern over road safety and gun violence. The suspect remains at large, as authorities continue to probe this shocking event.
In a separate account obtained by CBS News Chicago, the incident unfolded in the city's Near North neighborhood, with police confirming that the tow truck rear-ended the woman's SUV, followed by either the driver or another unidentified individual inside firing the shots. While the purpose and premeditation of the collision and subsequent shooting remain under investigation, the potential danger imposed on city streets by such seemingly random acts of violence has not gone unnoticed.
