Fog is setting the scene in New Orleans as visibility drops to a whisper across the city. The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Dense Fog Advisory effective until 10 AM CST Sunday. This advisory warns of visibility one quarter mile or less, urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
As per the National Weather Service update, the areas affected include portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. This fog comes with a high humidity reading of 97%, and a slow-moving south wind at 9 mph. The temperature hovers around a comfortable 65°F, which might entice locals to step out despite the advisory. Nonetheless, the National Weather Service cautions, "low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous."
Heading into Sunday, the city faces a 20 percent chance of showers post-4pm with fog likely to clear by the morning. The skies will see a gradual transition to increased cloud coverage, with a high near 77, and winds shifting south at 5 to 10 mph. These conditions set up a prelude to a night that offers a 50% chance of showers, a drop in temperature to around 50°F, and a wind change to the north at 10 to 15 mph after midnight, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The shift will bring mostly cloudy conditions initially on Monday, sundering to sunny skies by the afternoon with a high of 61°F. It's a north wind blowing hard at 15 to 20 mph, gusting upwards to 30 mp. Residents should anticipate a partly cloudy Monday night, with the mercury dipping to about 37 and the wind maintaining its brisk pace.
