Adams addressed the city’s response to recent violent incidents, including a mass shooting at Brown University, the shooting of six teenagers at a Brooklyn sweet 16, and a terrorist attack in Australia that killed several people, including a rabbi and a Holocaust survivor. He outlined the city’s efforts to remove illegal guns from the streets and highlighted the role of specialized response units, stating that nearly 25,000 firearms removed have contributed to public safety.
Commissioner Tisch provided updates on the Brooklyn shooting, stating it appears to be gang-related, and described the increased deployment of resources across the city's college campuses and Jewish sites. She explained that the NYPD has stepped up security for Hanukkah-related events, menorah lightings, and Jewish houses of worship. She added that there will be an enhanced uniform presence, specialized patrols, heavy weapons teams, community affairs officers, counterterrorism resources, and bomb squad deployments where appropriate.
