In preparation for the College Football Playoff game between the University of Oklahoma and Alabama on December 19, the Norman Police Department has announced its traffic and parking management plan. The game, scheduled to take place in Norman, is expected to attract a large number of attendees, which may result in increased congestion near the stadium. The NPD has issued a set of recommendations and guidelines intended to help manage traffic flow and parking for both fans and local residents.
In an official announcement, the Norman Police Department stated that motorists should follow designated routes, indicated in blue on official maps, to access and leave the game. Traffic officers will be positioned along Lindsey Street from Interstate 35 to Elm Avenue before and after the game to manage vehicle flow. After the game, officers will also assist on routes from the stadium to south Classen Boulevard. Lindsey Street will be converted to a one-way street eastbound from Elm Avenue to Berry Road before the game and westbound after the game to facilitate smoother traffic movement.
Parking restrictions are in effect, with barricades blocking several areas around the University of Oklahoma campus and Campus Corner. Parking near the stadium is limited to permit holders only. The NPD warns that parking along yellow curbs, blocking driveways, or using disabled parking spaces without authorization may result in vehicles being towed. Vehicle owners may need to contact one of the listed wrecker services, such as L&A Wrecker or Lamb Towing, if their car is impounded due to these violations.
To receive updates on emergency situations during the game, individuals can sign up for AlertNorman by texting NORMANEVENTS to 226787. Updates are also available on the NPD’s Twitter account, @normanokpd, which shares real-time information during emergencies. Authorities emphasize road safety and advise pedestrians and drivers to stay alert, avoid impairment, and follow all posted warnings at railroad crossings.
Pedicabs will not be permitted within the restricted areas, including Boyd Street, during the closures. Drivers are required to follow all traffic laws, and violations may result in citations. Individuals interested in operating a pedicab must obtain a Business License through the City of Norman. Additional information is available in the Transportation Licensing and Information section.
