For North Carolina residents and visitors, the holiday season includes a long-standing tradition. The North Carolina Executive Mansion, known as the "people's house," will host its annual Holiday Open House from December 11 through December 13, according to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The mansion’s historic halls will be open to the public free of charge.

The Holiday Open House will begin on December 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and continue on December 12–13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Visitors can enter through the main gates on Blount Street without reservations. Docents will be available to answer questions about the mansion’s history and holiday decorations, but traditional guided tours will not be offered during the open house hours.

Visitors are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to donate to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Only food donations are being accepted; monetary contributions are not. In a press release, the Executive Mansion, praised by Franklin Delano Roosevelt for having "the most beautiful governor’s residence interior in America," has been home to North Carolina governors since 1891 and currently serves as the residence of Governor Josh Stein.
