
A man was found dead yesterday morning in Northeast DC, a victim of gunshot wounds, the Metropolitan Police Department reports. The shooting took place inside an apartment on the 1000 block of North Capitol Street, where the police were dispatched at about 2:37 a.m.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Melvin Saunders, a resident of Northeast, DC. According to the officials, upon their arrival, officers discovered Saunders unconscious and not breathing. Despite the efforts of DC Fire and EMS who quickly arrived on the scene, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and Saunders was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the incident and urges anyone with information to come forward. They encourage individuals to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or to anonymously text a tip to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. A monetary incentive is on the table; the MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest, and conviction of the perpetrator(s).
