The Northwest Side community mourns 4-year-old Josiah Cabral, who was killed in a shooting at a home on the 10000 block of Windstone Creek. KSAT reports that the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed his identity, and the investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.
Officials state the incident occurred on Monday afternoon, with the San Antonio Police arriving at the scene to find the father administering first aid to the child. Despite efforts, Josiah was declared dead after being transported to a local hospital. The parents, who were the only other individuals present at the time of the incident, were detained for questioning, yet no charges have been pressed as the investigation progresses. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, in a statement obtained by KSAT, articulated that a handgun was involved, but the specifics surrounding the shooting are still unclear.
Following the tragedy, Northside Independent School District confirmed that Cabral was enrolled in pre-K at Steubing Ranch Elementary School, highlighting the young child’s connection to the school community. Assistant Superintendent of Communications Barry Perez verified this information in interviews.
Police continue to investigate the fatal shooting, but details remain undisclosed. David Lunan of the Bexar County District Attorney's Office told FOX San Antonio that not every tragic incident results in criminal charges, and cases like Josiah's can be complex to evaluate.
