Application of treatments to elevated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses was in progress, in an effort to mitigate the formation of black ice – a thin coating of glaze ice on the roadway that may appear wet but is indeed treacherous. "Crews are out in the Oklahoma City metro area monitoring conditions and treating elevated surfaces," the Oklahoma Department of Transportation emphasized. Reports have confirmed slick spots, which will continue to be treated across western Oklahoma, and in the Oklahoma City area, activities to secure the roads will persist until the fog lifts, and pavements are deemed secure.
The ODOT has cautioned drivers about the hazardous driving conditions and advised motorists to delay any non-essential travel until the fog and ice abate. "Drivers should should keep an eye on the weather and delay travel if freezing fog remains in their area as it also limits visibility," stated the ODOT.
