Drivers in Oklahoma City can expect ongoing road closures and lane reductions extending into 2026, according to a recent advisory from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). Yesterday's announcement outlined multiple projects affecting major roadways, some of which are anticipated to continue for several months.
On Dec. 29, the southbound I-35 on-ramp from Wilshire Blvd. will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the installation of safety devices, with I-35 itself narrowed at Wilshire Blvd. during the same hours. I-40, between Meridian Ave. and May Ave., will have nightly lane reductions from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for bridge and pavement rehabilitation through fall this year. The I-240/I-35 interchange is undergoing a multiphase improvement project, resulting in lane and road closures at S.E. 59th St., Pole Rd., and the I-240/I-35 service roads. The new northbound I-35 off-ramp to eastbound I-240 has opened, though the entrance is now positioned farther south than before.
Traffic on I-44 will be affected as the east and westbound off-ramps to N.W. 10th St. remain closed until summer 2026 for a City of Oklahoma City bridge project. I-40 lanes will also be narrowed at Douglas Blvd. in Midwest City through this year, with drivers encouraged to use alternate routes such as I-240 and US-62/N. 23rd St. Lane reductions are planned on SH-66 and US-81 in El Reno due to ongoing roundabout construction, which will continue through this year and include the closure of the northbound US-81 on-ramp to eastbound I-40.
On SH-37/S.E. 4th St. in Moore, the section between Broadway Ave. and Tower Dr. will remain closed through summer 2026 for a railroad bridge project. Meanwhile, Anderson Rd. is now fully open, including restored I-40 on and off-ramps.
With these ongoing projects, careful planning is essential, as road closures and lane reductions may require drivers to take alternate routes. Updated information and a full list of current and upcoming traffic advisories are available on ODOT’s official website.
