A grisly shooting unfolded in Corona, Queens outside a bodega, leaving one man dead and another wounded last night, according to police reports. The violence erupted in front of the 108th Street Grocery, located at 57-18 108th St., causing immediate alarm and prompting a swift response from the NYPD.
Arriving officers found two men struck by gunfire, the NYPD said. A 28-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, where his condition was reported as stable. The second victim, a 27-year-old man, suffered more severe injuries after being shot in the chest. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition but ultimately passed away from his wounds, sources from ABC7NY confirmed.
Investigators are currently piecing together the circumstances that led to the shooting. A source familiar with the investigation told QNS that the surviving victim has been "highly uncooperative." No arrests have been made thus far, and homicide detectives from the 110th Precinct are working to determine the motive behind the incident. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending family notification.
The NYPD spokeswoman stated that no description of the suspect is available yet, and the homicide investigation is ongoing, as per the report from QNS. The local community has been asked to provide any information that could assist the case by calling the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline or submitting tips online. Shockingly, the 110th Precinct's CompStat report notes that homicides in the area have spiked by 100%, with four murders reported so far this year compared to two at the same point in 2024.
Notably, the same corner of Waldron Street and 108th Street was the backdrop for an unrelated incident in June 2024, where locals captured a suspected rapist, which garnered citywide attention. Christian Inga, the accused, was tackled and detained by good Samaritans until police took over, providing a stark contrast to the current climate of increased violence highlighted by this recent shooting.
