Tragedy struck at a Clearwater sports bar last evening as one person was left dead and four others injured following a shooting. Clearwater Police Department responded to the emergency call at Fuzzy's Sports Bar & Grill on S. Highland Avenue shortly before 8 p.m., where they discovered a man fatally wounded in the parking lot, according to a report by WFLA.
In a chaotic aftermath, a vehicle was seen dropping off four additional victims at Morton Plant Hospital. Notably, one of these individuals was later transferred to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital for advanced treatment. The police have yet to publicly confirm a motive or any leads on suspects, but they are actively pursuing to gather more evidence. One piece seems to be surveillance footage which will "play an important role in finding out what happened," as mentioned by FOX 13 News.
The Clearwater Police Department has communicated to the public that they don't believe this was a random incident, and thus, there is no immediate threat to the community at large. However, the car seen leaving Morton Hospital so abruptly remains a loose end in the ongoing investigation. "We're not sure how many people were involved, where they all fled, what they went and did," said City of Clearwater spokesperson Rob Shaw in a statement obtained by WTSP.
Last night, details on the ages and genders of the injured parties had not been released. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and help piece together the events that led up to the tragedy. Shaw emphasized, "But we do know that the one individual dropped off four people at the hospital and then fled." Residents and witnesses with information are being asked to contact Clearwater Police at 562-4242.
