A collision between a semi-truck and a Cadillac on Highway 12 near Rio Vista killed one driver, ABC10 reported. The incident on Monday prompted the closure of both directions near the Highway 160 intersection.
Authorities responded shortly before 5 p.m. and found the semi-truck had collided with the Cadillac, sending it off the road into an embankment. According to KCRA, Highway 12 remained closed for over five hours, reopening around 9:20 p.m. after investigators and cleanup crews cleared the scene.
The collision caused traffic delays near the Rio Vista bridge. The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries, while the Cadillac driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending family notification, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Images from the River Delta Fire District showed the overturned semi with bales of hay scattered around. The crash left one driver dead and the other with minor injuries. Authorities are still investigating the cause.
