A somber update comes out of East Los Angeles, following a tragic shooting incident. On Tuesday evening, gunfire erupted near Telegraph Road and Arizona Avenue, which resulted in one fatality and left three others wounded, as ABC7 reported. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to the scene of the violence at around 8:15 p.m.
The authorities discovered four individuals with gunshot injuries. One male adult was found lying on the street, pronounced dead at the scene, and three men were transported to the hospital; two remain in critical condition, the other in stable, as described in reports from KTLA. In the wake of the incident, a SigAlert was issued, temporarily closing the Eastern Avenue offramp on the northbound 5 Freeway for over half an hour.
Details surrounding the circumstances that led to the shooting are still uncertain, and the investigation into the cause is ongoing. According to a NBC Los Angeles report, all victims appear to have been seated in a car when several suspects approached the vehicle and opened fire. The assailants then fled the scene, last seen heading northbound on Arizona Avenue. The severity of the injuries sustained by the three hospitalized victims has not yet been disclosed.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward. LASD's Homicide Bureau can be reached at 323-890-5500. Tips can also be provided anonymously through "Crime Stoppers" by calling 800-222-8477, or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
