The city of Dunedin is gearing up for its annual Operation Santa, where local neighborhoods will witness Santa Claus and his elves spreading holiday cheer starting Thursday, December 11. In a statement obtained by Dunedin's official website, residents can use an interactive map to track when the festive procession will visit their area, and, there's also a real-time Santa Tracker that will go live once the event kicks off.
As per the route published on the City of Dunedin website, Operation Santa aims to include as many Dunedin neighborhoods as possible, yet safety and practical considerations take precedence, some areas may be bypassed if the safety of the participants cannot be guaranteed or if the Dunedin Fire Rescue truck cannot navigate the terrain without risk, the focus remains on delivering a safe and delightful experience for everyone. Santa's journey each night, post-sunset, will be traceable live, enhancing the excitement for those eagerly awaiting their chance to catch a glimpse of the holiday icon.
Dunedin Fire Rescue has made clear on their site that while the intent is to adhere to the set schedule, certain factors, like weather conditions, could lead to alterations or cancellations, stressing that they are not responsible for any expenses that residents may incur as a result of these changes. The organizers will ensure no evening's cancellation will be made up on a later date, emphasizing the need for understanding from the public as they balance festivity with pragmatism.
To partake in the festivities, residents are advised to locate their specific night on the map, monitor Santa’s real-time whereabouts via the Santa Tracker and to step outside or drive to the nearest area on the route when the time comes, the aim being to create a collective spirit of joy within the community as Santa waves back. All these details emphasize the unity and shared excitement that the holiday season brings, with a special note to embrace what they call the "Art of Living" in Dunedin.
