The Orange Park Police Department recently shared important guidance on handling accidental 911 calls. Their social media post provides clear, step-by-step instructions for quickly resolving unintended calls and communicating effectively with emergency dispatchers.
According to their Facebook post, the Orange Park Police Department advises anyone who accidentally dials 911 to stay on the line and wait for a dispatcher to answer. Once connected, callers should clearly explain that the call was accidental and that there is no emergency. The department also recommends being prepared to provide your name, phone number, and location if requested, helping dispatchers handle the call efficiently and prevent unnecessary emergency responses.
The department’s online post also emphasizes following the dispatcher’s instructions and waiting for confirmation before hanging up. They clarify that callers cannot disconnect before the call is connected and that dispatchers do not always have all the necessary information. If a call ends unexpectedly, the department will attempt to call back, but if contact cannot be made, an officer may be sent.
