The Orlando Police Department (OPD) has reported the arrest of a 49-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month. William Payne, an Orlando resident, has been charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm following the death of 42-year-old Brian Blackshear, as reported by WFTV.
The incident, which took place on November 23, around 10:10 p.m., resulted in officers responding to reports of gunfire on the 3400 block of Columbia Street. There, authorities found Blackshear with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The intensive investigation by OPD's Homicide unit eventually pointed to Payne as the suspected shooter, as detailed in a report by Orlando-News.com.
Yesterday, Payne was apprehended by the homicide unit and booked into the Orange County Jail, where he is being held without bond. It appears that officers were able to act swiftly in this case, leading to an arrest less than a month after the shooting occurred. OPD has confirmed that there are no other outstanding suspects in this case.
