Drivers navigating the stretches of Garden of the Gods Road should brace for overnight delays this week, as construction teams embark on an important upgrade to the area's traffic infrastructure. On Tuesday and Wednesday, part of the road east of Interstate 25 near Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard will experience lane closures to facilitate the installation of new traffic signals, aimed at increasing safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, the closures are part of ongoing daytime construction efforts and will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following mornings. While at least one lane in each direction will remain open to keep traffic flowing, motorists are urged to exert extra caution as they pass through workers on foot, wielding heavy equipment, hemmed in by safety barriers, safety signage, and bright artificial lighting.
Specifically, closures will affect eastbound and westbound lanes as follows:
- Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17
- Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18
