The city of Palm Beach County has teamed up with Village of Valor LTD to kick off a new project aimed at providing affordable housing to veterans and their families. The development, known as the Village of Valor, was officially inaugurated with a groundbreaking ceremony, marking the start of construction on a community designed to offer not only a roof overhead but also resources and support tailor-made for those who've served our nation.
With a substantial investment from the county, totaling $4.3 million of Housing Bond Loan funds and an additional $2 million from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds, the Village of Valor is a notable effort to directly tackle the issue of accessible and affordable housing. The development is slated to consist of two mid-rise buildings featuring 54 units, designed to appeal to households earning between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). A statement obtained by Palm Beach County Newsroom highlighted the broad range of amenities that will be available, including a pool and basketball courts.
More than just providing affordable housing, the Village of Valor is designed to be a sustainable living space for the long term. Each unit will be equipped with modern Energy Star appliances, and the project aims to achieve the National Green Building Standards Gold Certification, ensuring a light footprint on the environment.
Community support is a central tenet of the Village of Valor as 10,000 square feet has been allocated for on-site space dedicated to the non-profit organization Faith*Hope*Love*Charity, Inc. This space is set to offer critical services to residents, such as vocational training and support staff, specifically focusing on the needs of veterans. According to Palm Beach County Newsroom, the development's prime location close to public transit, medical facilities, and schools aptly positions it to facilitate not just housing, but also opportunity.
During the ceremony, Palm Beach County Commissioners Joel G. Flores and Maria Sachs emphasized the broader implications of the project. “Situated right here at 2701 – 2751 Second Avenue North, this development is more than just housing; this is a powerful example of how our County can invest in meaningful, lasting solutions – and we are proud to support it,” said Commissioner Joel G. Flores. Commissioner Maria Sachs added, “This Village of Valor is so important. It's not just a housing project; this is a village for the men and women who’ve served our Country. This is the first of many,” stressing the Village of Valor's role as a vanguard in the area's push for veteran-oriented housing solutions, as mentioned on the county's website.
