
A pedestrian was killed in a DUI-related collision Monday night in Northwest Las Vegas, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around 9:35 p.m. on Rancho Drive, between Duncan Drive and Jones Boulevard/Alexander Road, when a 73-year-old man crossing outside a crosswalk was struck by a southbound 2017 Honda Civic and pronounced dead at the scene, according to News 3 Las Vegas.
Investigators with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the driver, 49-year-old Damien Faria, showed signs of impairment. According to FOX5 Las Vegas, Faria was taken into custody after losing control of his vehicle, which struck a pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident marks the 158th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction this year. Rancho Drive was briefly closed to allow investigators to collect evidence and reconstruct the collision.
Faria remained at the scene and was arrested on DUI-related charges, authorities confirmed. LVMPD said he showed signs of impairment, according to News 3 Las Vegas. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the collision.
