A pedestrian fatality occurred at the intersection of West Pacific Coast Highway and Cedar Avenue in Long Beach on the evening of December 27, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The incident, which involved a 2013 Ford Fusion and a female pedestrian, led to responders finding the woman unconscious in the roadway around 8:45 p.m. The Long Beach Fire Department rushed the gravely injured woman to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The initial police investigation does not suggest that speed, distractedness, or impairment were factors in the tragic event. The involved driver remained at the scene and provided full cooperation with law enforcement officials. As of now, authorities have not released an identity for the deceased pedestrian, as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office is awaiting notification of the next of kin.
