Chatham Community Library is hosting an event in partnership with heart2heart North Carolina. According to Chatham County, "Death and Cupcakes" will provide an opportunity to learn about and discuss end-of-life topics. It will take place on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Holmes Family Meeting Room at the library, 197 NC 87 N, Pittsboro, NC.

The event will be facilitated by Cathy Brooksie Edwards, director of heart2heart NC, and will provide a space to discuss topics such as death, dying, loss, grief, and renewal. It will include live music by Amy Durso, periods of mindfulness meditation, and cupcakes. As per the county's release, the goal of the event is to encourage open conversation on a topic that is often avoided.

After a short intermission, local author Tami Schwerin will read from her new book, Welcome to Death Faire: Love, Loss and Healing in a Small Southern Town. The 160-page book includes stories, essays, poems, rituals, and images, exploring the connection between life and death. Schwerin was inspired by the loss of her son, Zafer, and the creation of Death Faire.

The "Death and Cupcakes" event is open to the public and does not require pre-registration, as reported by Chatham County. It is made possible by the Friends of the Chatham Community Library. For more information, residents can visit the library’s website at www.chathamlibraries.org or call (919) 545-8084. According to the library’s news release, the Friends of the Chatham Community Library help ensure the event is accessible to everyone.
