A man is fighting for his life after a spate of gunfire erupted overnight in Pittsburgh's Middle Hill neighborhood. According to WPXI, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m., when first responders found a vehicle, pierced by bullets and surrounded by spent casings, near Chauncey Street and Webster Avenue. Police, summoned by three ShotSpotter alerts indicating 17 rounds discharged, located, blocks away, a man who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, discovered near Wylie Avenue and Junilla Street, sustained severe injuries to his torso and arm. Officers at the scene provided emergency aid, utilizing chest seals and a tourniquet to stem the bleeding before medics arrived. The man was subsequently rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery, reported to be in critical condition by WTAE.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials indicated that the preliminary investigation suggests the man was making his way back to his vehicle when he was struck by gunfire. The circumstances leading up to the shooting, and the motive behind it, remain under investigation by Pittsburgh police.
As of now, investigators have not released information regarding potential suspects.
