A tragic incident has struck the Carrick neighborhood in Pittsburgh, where a 17-year-old high school senior, Ishara Kami, was fatally injured after being hit by a sliding vehicle. The accident occurred around 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Brownsville Road and Woodford Avenue. According to WPXI, the driver, navigating down Brownsville Road, lost control and struck both a pole and Kami, who was standing on the sidewalk at the time.
First responders rushed to the scene to provide emergency care. Despite their efforts to quickly administer CPR, Kami was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. As the investigation into the accident continues, the driver stayed on scene, and it remains to be seen whether they will face charges. Kami is remembered as a well-loved student who was part of the Health Tech program at Pittsburgh Carrick High School. Pittsburgh Public Schools released a statement, stating, "Ishara is described by staff as a beautiful student who had recently begun to come out of her shell," in a statement obtained by WPXI.
Pittsburgh Public Schools is coordinating to offer counseling and support services to students and staff impacted by this loss. "We extend our deepest condolences to Ishara’s family, friends, classmates, and the entire Carrick school community during this incredibly difficult time," read the statement by Pittsburgh Public Schools, in detail shared by WTAE.
