Placer County's parking management efforts in Kings Beach are showing positive results, using data-driven strategies and community education to reduce congestion and encourage public transport use. Technology played a key role, with increased lot occupancy and a text-to-pay system planned for 2026, according to the County of Placer.
Jared Deck, Tahoe's Public Works Manager, emphasized, "Effective parking management is about much more than citations. It’s about improving traffic flow, supporting local businesses, protecting neighborhood access and making it easier for people to choose to walk, bike or take transit around town." Peak season data from June to September showed Christmas Tree lot occupancy at 59% and Brook Avenue at 62%, with Saturday afternoons reaching 80%, as reported by the County of Placer.
The County of Placer updated parking in North Lake Tahoe by moving all warnings to a digital format and issuing 595 citations. Payment options now include text-to-pay, and pricing changes include hourly rates, a $2 evening flat rate, and a Spanish-language option. The County of Placer plans to continue updating the Parking Management Program, with text-to-pay available in 2026.
