
A pre-dawn collision on Fremont Boulevard left a pedestrian dead early Thursday near Delaware Drive, and investigators are now trying to piece together exactly how it unfolded.
Fremont officers responded to the area of Fremont Boulevard and Delaware Drive and found a person down in the roadway. Emergency crews took the victim to a local hospital, where they later died. Police say the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation as the Traffic Investigations Unit works the case.
Police timeline and preliminary findings
The collision happened at about 4:30 AM, when a vehicle struck the pedestrian on the front driver’s side as the person was walking or riding a bicycle eastbound across Fremont Boulevard near the south side of Delaware Drive, according to The Mercury News. Paramedics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, and the Alameda County coroner’s bureau will release the person’s identity after notifying next of kin, the outlet reports.
Investigators say impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The Fremont Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit has taken over the case.
