Early Monday, a Chicago Ridge home became the focus of a homicide investigation after officers found a 59-year-old man dead inside and took one person into custody. Police say the case appears to be domestic-related and emphasize there is no ongoing threat to the public as detectives continue to work the scene.
Police response at the scene
Officers were called around 4:30 a.m. to a residence in the 10500 block of S. Austin Avenue for a report of an unresponsive person, according to Fox 32 Chicago. When first responders entered the home, they found a man who was later determined to be dead, the station reported. Chicago Ridge police remained at the property for hours while investigators documented the scene and collected evidence.
Medical examiner identifies victim
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 59-year-old Mohammad Qouqazeh and ruled his death a homicide, as reported by Patch. An autopsy found that Qouqazeh died from multiple injuries consistent with an assault, the outlet reported. Officials have not released additional forensic details while detectives continue their work.
Suspect in custody; charges pending
A suspect was detained in connection with the death, and police are calling the incident an isolated, domestic-related case with no danger to the wider community, according to Fox 32 Chicago. Authorities have not identified the person in custody by name, and formal charges are still pending as investigators review findings and statements.
What investigators are doing next
Detectives are tracking leads and coordinating with the Cook County State's Attorney’s Office as the investigation moves forward, Patch reported. Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Chicago Ridge Police Department. The case remains active, and more details are expected as investigators and prosecutors evaluate the evidence.
