A routine shoplifting incident at a Walmart Supercenter in Eldersburg escalated into a police chase on Monday, ending with the arrest of a Randallstown man. Carroll County Sheriff's Office reported the suspect, Antowan Theron Evans, 54, was apprehended after deputies attempted to stop his blue minivan and initiated a pursuit on Liberty Road. The captured event transpired around the vicinity of 6400 Ridge Road at approximately 10:43 p.m., according to Fox Baltimore.
Authorities were determined to swiftly apprehend the suspect as the vehicle fled at high speed. A deputy managed successfully to deploy a tire deflation device that subsequently slowed the minivan near Fallon Road, allowing officers to eventually stop Evans near the Baltimore County line. The arrest occurred within minutes, with Evans being taken into custody at 10:47 p.m., as confirmed by officials, reported by Fox Baltimore.
Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found over $400 worth of clothing and items from Walmart, in conjunction with two containers holding substances suspected to be cocaine. Furthermore, during intake at Carroll County Central Booking, additional substances presumed to be cocaine were discovered on Evans. Charges against Evans include theft in the bracket of $100 to under $1,500, possession of contraband in a place of confinement, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) - not cannabis. In addition, he faces several traffic citations related to the chase. As of the following day, he was held pending a bail review hearing, and a trial has been set for February 10, 2026.
