An altercation between a rideshare driver and a passenger led to an arrest in Southwest D.C. On last Saturday around 10:17 p.m., the driver was assaulted after picking up the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Terrell Medlay, from Northwest D.C. Police said the dispute began over adding an extra stop to the trip and escalated into an assault and carjacking, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
A verbal dispute escalated into a physical attack when Medlay allegedly assaulted a rideshare driver, pulled the victim from the vehicle, and demanded the car keys, authorities said. Three special police officers intervened, detaining Medlay until metropolitan officers arrived, and the driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Medlay faces charges including unarmed carjacking and felony strangulation, police said, and additional details about the arrest and the driver’s condition were not immediately available. The investigation remains ongoing, as stated by the Metropolitan Police Department.
